Education expo concludes

ISLAMABAD: Mohammad Ali, a student pursuing a Bachelor of Commerce, visited Dawn Education Expo 2017 on Saturday and was surprised to see that many foreign universities did not offer MBA courses for BCom students.

“I am a BCom student at Allama Iqbal Open University because I was informed that it was the most appropriate course to take before an MBA.

“I came here for seek information about a foreign university, but I was told I would need a BCom Honours if I want to get admitted into a good foreign university,” Mr Ali told Dawn.

“After I go home, I will sit and think about what I should do – should I enrol in a Pakistani university, or take another course that will help me get into a university abroad?”

Mohammad Waseem, who visited the expo, said he decided to come and collect information for his son, who wishes to study abroad.

“Although there are display centres of many universities, I would prefer that my son go to a country where English is the national language, because students who study in those countries get jobs more easily compared to students with degrees from countries where students are not taught in English,” he explained.

“There will be more Pakistanis in the UK or the US, so my son will feel more comfortable [there],” he said.

The administration manager at the Education Resource Worldwide consultancy firm, Albert David Bernard, told Dawn most visitors sought admissions and scholarship information about various universities.

Around 80 display centres were set up by national and international educational institutions.

Foreign universities included ones from Canada, UK, US, North Cyprus, Turkey, Australia, UAE, Spain and Iran.
