Quran reading to be made compulsory in schools, colleges: Yousaf
Minister for Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony Sardar Muhammad Yousaf on Thursday said the recitation of the Holy Quran would be made compulsory till class five and its reading with meaning from 6th class to twelve. The government, he said, had tabled bills in that regard in the National Assembly and Senate, which had been unanimously approved by the respective standing committees.
Addressing the 16th foundation anniversary of Muslim Students Organization here, Sardar Yousaf said the ministry would also take all the provinces into confidence in that respect.
He stressed the need to bring reforms in religious ceremonies as well as in the formal education system to balance the Islamic and modern education in the curriculum.
He said the ministry was also endeavoring to arrange budget for introduce modern education in Madaris (religious ceremonies). He asked the MSO members to follow the teachings of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) if they wanted to lead a successful life.
Speaking on the occasion, former Azad Jammu and Kashmir President Sardar Muhammad Yaqoob said one should first reform himself or herself and consider teach others. He said all the Muslims should also respect other religions as they also had right to lead life without any fear.
