Poor SSC results in Mardan
Despite the government’s claims about bringing change and working of government schools in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) province, students studying in Mardan district could not get considerable positions in the SSC examinations 2016 conducted by the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE) based in the city. It is important to mention that Mardan is the hometown of the provincial minister for education and, therefore, it should be a matter of great concern for him.
Majority of the parents of these students are unsatisfied with the performance of state run schools. Only one student of the government school could make it to the list of the top 20 students in the SSC examinations of 2016 of BISE, Mardan. Furthermore, the board has declared five educational institutions best in the area but none of them belong to the public sector. All this is being witnessed in the presence of tall claims of the elected representatives that the government has improved the education standards in the public sector of the province.
In view of the above, there is a strong need for revisiting the educational policy of the provincial government especially with respect to state run schools for improving their overall performance.
