Peshawar—Education is the high priority area of provincial government and huge allocation of Rs.111.52 billion in the Budget for the year 2016-17 truly reflects its deep commitment to provide free and quality education to all across the province.
This was stated by Minister for Education Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Muhammad Atif while talking to media men here on Sunday. He said education is an investment in future generation and provides a foundation for human development, for this purpose special focus is provided by the government on education.
He said the provincial government is keen to provide access to education, create a gender balance and fulfill the infrastructural requirements of existing institutions including staff, equipment, furniture, teachers training and repairs.
Its aim is to ensure quality education for all and all girls, boys complete free primary and secondary schooling and achieve universal access to a quality higher education, he maintained.
In the budget, he said, an allocation of Rs.12453.00 million has been made for total of 72 projects, out of which 64 are ongoing with allocation of Rs. 10030.007 million and 8 are new with allocation of Rs. 2422.993 Million.
The Minister said that the major targets of the new budget are provision for special initiative, establishment of 200 smart schools, first ever Girls Cadet College at Mardan, Cadet College at Swat, 1300 Girls Community Schools, 160 new Primary Schools, 500 IT Labs in High and Higher Secondary Schools, up gradation of 50 Primary, 50 Middle and 50 High Schools on need basis and standardization of 200 Higher Secondary Schools, in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Similarly, stipends to girl students from class 6th to 10th at the rate of Rs.200 per month will continue in the next budget too, he concluded.—APP
