Schools violate govt’s vacation orders
ATTOCK-The Non Formal Basic Education Schools (NFBES) here have not been closed for summer vacation in violation of the orders of Punjab government.
As the children studying in NFBES are facing a lot of problems in the sizzling heat, their parents demanded that the Punjab government should take notice of the violation.
This year because of extremely hot weather, all the public and private schools were closed on May 24 for summer vacation.
However, NFBES have not been closed.
There are 220 NFBES working in different areas of Attock where 6,800 students are studying.
These schools have been set up in a single room provided by the community lacking basic facilities.
For each school, one teacher has been hired on contract basis on nominal pay who teaches these students.
PML-N Coordinator Human Rights and Minorities Affairs Shireen Aslam had a meeting in this context with EDO Education and apprised him of the situation.
When contacted, the District Literacy Officer Attock said that as per the policy of Literacy Department, NFBES are granted summer vacation from June 16 to July 5 and the department is bound to follow the policy.
However, he said, after the meeting of Coordinator Human Rights with EDO Education, a letter has been sent to the authority concerned for advice in this regard.
