KARACHI: Sindh Education and Literacy Department has released a one time region wise grant for 996 campus schools, consolidated under the School Consolidation Policy, to make minor repairs and renovation, maintenance and purchase of goods in the schools.
Moreover, for successful implementation of the policy on ground level, 10 lead campus schools in two regions have been selected, said a statement on Wednesday. The schools will be given grants region wise as a total 124 campus of schools in Shaheed Benazirabad, 252 schools in Hyderabad, 181 schools in Sukkur, 185 schools in Larkana, 77 schools in Mirpurkhas and 177 schools in Karachi will be provided with suitable grant.
These schools will serve as role models for other campus schools that are to be consolidated for the optimum utilisation of resources, the statement added. The policy aims at rationalising schools, teachers, administration, infrastructure and other resources to enhance the quality of education while ensuring the access to education to all communities through improved governance.
“This one time grant was released after a need assessment of campus schools through a diligent process. To ensure the proper utilisation of the grant, training sessions are also being conducted where manuals are given to head masters or mistress concerned and district officers as the manual provides complete guidelines for procurement,” the statement said.
Under the policy, consolidated schools are operated as single schools, which covers three types of schools including adjoining schools, embedded or same premise schools and the schools that are within a stipulated distance of each other and one strategic school among them having horizontal and/or vertical space for expansion to accommodate students in merged schools.
