NAB interrogates Mirpurkhas education officials
KARACHI: National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Karachi interrogated officials of Mirpurkhas District Accounts Office in the case of issuance of salaries to suspected teachers and other staff without the approval of relevant drawing and disbursement officers and appointments on the basis of fake documents.
The official at Mirpurkhas District Accounts Office slowed down their work following reports of detention of some officials by investigation officers of NAB. Reliable sources said that there was ongoing inquiry by NAB officers in Mirpurkhas Education Department regarding illegal appointment of teachers and other staff in 2012 and 2013 and issuance of salaries to suspect teachers without approval of the officers concerned. Sources said dozens of officers of Mirpurkhas Education Department had passed interrogation process of NAB.
Following this action the staff and officers of Mirpurkhas District Accounts Office were avoiding signing documents. When contacted, Mirpurkhas District Accounts Officer Zaheeruddin confirmed the report and lamented “we are here to facilitate the government employees and others, and the officers of government departments are not performing their duties properly to maintain the record of their employees. We were implementing the rules of the Sindh government and departmental rules, but NAB officials are not apprising us regarding the investigation that was creating panic among staff.”
