More than 100 male and female students of Government Municipal Committee (MC) Primary School No 9 here are forced to get education in the under-construction building of the school which lacks all the basic facilities.
They students have to sit on the bricks floor being used as sitting desk in the school. Built in 1952, the school building has been enlisted as one of dilapidated school buildings of Dera Ghazi Khan, Though district administration has started its construction, it has not made arrangements for shifting of students to any other safe building. Three teachers and students seem to be the picture of helplessness.
On the other side, federal and provincial governments along with private sector are spending billions of rupees for the security of educational institutions.
Teachers refused to pass any remarks about presence of students in the under construction building while students who were looking like angles complained that they are facing unavailability of all the basic facilities even they are not provided with potable water and toilets. They said that they were feeling insecure there in the open place.
When contacted, EDO (Education) Shaukat Sherwani, talking to The Nation, said that he was unaware of it that children were studying there. However, he said that children would be shifted to another safe building soon. Furthermore, he was unable to answer any question regarding students’ problems and security.
District Education Officer (Male) Sirajuddin also said that he was unaware of the situation. He added that he would take action against officials concerned.
Assistant Education Officer (Male) Ramzan Leghari said that the school has been handed over to district education officer (female) DG Khan; therefore it is not under the control of district education officer (male).However, District Education Officer (Female) Ferzana Bukhari completely denied it. She said that the school was under the management of District Education Officer Sirajuddin and he was answerable for it. It is the apathy of the education officers from EDO education to assistant education officer that everyone tried to conceal the facts.
