AIOU to launch special issue of its ‘Journal of Education’
ISLAMABAD: Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) is going to launch a special issue of its ‘Journal of Education’ based on the selected papers out of the total 170 papers.
The academicians and researchers presented these papers from home and abroad at an international conference on ‘Research and Practices in Education’.
Faculty of Education, AIOU in the support The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and Higher Education Commission (HEC) organised the conference.
A special issue on selected papers is aimed to motivate young researchers to do more in their respective fields, said a press release issued on Saturday
While addressing to the concluding session of the conference, AIOU Vice Chancellor (VC) Prof Dr Shahid Siddiqui said that a special committee would be set up soon which will contact all the scholars for editing and changes in this regard.
While talking on research journals, he said that they have two journals in education, one is ‘Journal of Education’ and the second is the new born ‘Pakistan Journal of Distance and Online learning’.
He further said that the AIOU is emphasising a lot on online learning and that is the future of the university.
Dr Shahid Siddiqui said, “Time is changing so fast, the amount of change which used to take place in years in the past, now the same amount of change is taking place in hours and there is direct implication for us.”
He said, “We are standing on the edge of another shift from conventional to digital education” adding, “We have a vibrant directorate of E-learning in AIOU.”
He informed that maintaining original character of the university would gradually emerge as electronic open university.
In the first instance, the university will offer all PhD programmes online that would be accomplished by the end of this year whereas study materials will be available for the students online and they would be given a facility to submit their assignments online as well.
The VC said that the students would have regular interactive sessions with the teachers by text chatting, video conferencing, desktop and white board sharing.
