LAHORE: In accordance with the instructions of the provincial government, the Punjab Education Foundation (PEF) has launched a province-wide programme to provide free education to children of brick kiln workers.

The children would be provided free education across PEF partner schools to improve their quality of life and transform them into productive members of the society.

A PEF spokesperson said PEF partner schools had been instructed to identify such children and provide lists on a prescribed performa as quickly as possible.

The PEF functionary said the performa had been uploaded at the official homepage of the foundation.

He said PEF partner schools had been directed to send details at pef.brick@pef.edu.pk with regard to case processing.

The PEF spokesperson said the foundation would verify the data through the relevant EDOs or Labour DOs to ensure transparency. He said PEF partner schools across Lahore, Mandi Bahauddin, Kasur, Layyah, Khushab, Bahawalnagar, Hafizabad,

Khanewal and Vehari had been directed to present data in 24 hours due to the formidable number of affected children in the districts.

The spokesperson said PEF partner schools would provide one set of uniform, a pair of shoes, a schoolbag and stationery including a notebook, carbon pencils, a diary, an eraser and a scale to the children being enrolled there.

He said the foundation would make similar arrangements for the provision of free education to the children being enrolled across private schools under the foundation’s Education Voucher Scheme. The spokesperson said the initiative would go a long way in helping children of brick kiln workers obtain education without burdening their parents.
