Restructuring of MAJU being finalised

KARACHI: A comprehensive and compact restructuring plan is being finalised for Mohammad Ali Jinnah University (MAJU) with an objective to adopt outcome-based education, improvement in teaching method, efficient administration and to make MAJU a leading institution for providing competent professionals who will be instrumental in development of a prosperous society.

These views were expressed by newly-appointed Mohammad Ali Jinnah University President Dr Mohammad Mansoor Ahmed while addressing to Business Administration and Computer Science departments' faculty of the university.

"All statutory bodies such as Academic Council, Board of studies, Board of Advance Studies and research and boards of faculties shall be reactivated for overall improvement in our present education environment and to meet the challenges of global changes in modern education system," he remarked.

He informed that board of study shall be constituted for each degree programme as an independent body headed by head of department comprising on three external members who will be nominated with the approval of chancellor of the university on the recommendation of the president.

He said that Board of Study shall conduct at least one meeting in each semester to put up its recommendations according to the need of concerned department.

"We have accepted it as a challenge because we understand that a university is a place where you are suppose to create knowledge and encourage research," he added.

Dr Mansoor said that in order to run university affairs in most efficient manner with a team spirit, an executive committee shall also be constituted comprising on all academic heads, deans, Students Affairs director, Examination controller and registrar.

He lauded the services rendered by his predecessors Prof Dr Abdul Wahab and Dr Afaq Ali khan in making MAJU a prestigious academic institution and to promote higher education in the country with their hard work, dedication and professional skills.

As per reports, course programmes shall be made by each department separately. Heads of departments shall be appointed shortly. A telecom engineering programme shall be launched. Basic input of academic programmes shall be given by department concerned. Maximum use of IT technology shall be utilised which includes up gradation of existing computer laborites, purchase of latest computers and establishment of digital laboratory. Grading policy, which is not according in line of policy approved by board of governors, shall also be revised.

Dr Mansoor said the MAJU is a trust and it rules and regulations shall be followed in letter and sprit.He said students societies shall be formed who will be responsible for implementation on social calendar. Research papers shall be provided by the university and business journals shall also be purchased, he said, adding online admission system shall be introduced from next semester.
