Below 12 years eligible for 9th class
LAHORE - The Lahore High Court yesterday provisionally allowed admission in 9th class to the children below the age of 12, with directions to the Punjab Chief Secretary to develop new admission policy for the school children.
During the course of hearing, the petitioners told the court that equal education is the basic right under Article 25 of the Constitution but unfortunately, education boards had made rules that children below the age of 12 were not eligible to get admission in 9th class.
The intelligent students who were below the age of 12 years were being deprived of their right to education, they said. They also said that it was violation of the Constitution. The petitioners told the judge that a single bench of the LHC had set aside such rules which barred the children from getting admission.
Lahore Examination Board Chairman was also present there in the court who said it was examination policy under which the children were barred from admissions. He said if this policy was lifted up then there would be a flood of children having certificates.
At this, Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah observed that should the children be left to be grown up at homes to get admission and asked a question that who would be responsible if the children got involved in negative activities. The judge ordered Punjab government to make afresh policy for the children’ admission and disposed of the petitions.
WORKSHOP: The Department of Statistics & Computer Sciences of the University of Veterinary and Animals Sciences Lahore in collaboration with the Jackson State University and Higher Education Commission (HEC) arranged a five days workshop titled “Research methodologies Using Statistical Techniques in Biological Sciences” here on Thursday.
Dean faculty of life sciences Business Management Prof Dr Nasim Ahmad chaired the inaugural session of the workshop while Chairman Department of Statistics & Computer Sciences Dr Muhammad Azam, Muhammad Bilal and a large number of participants were present. Dr Anwar Ahmad from Jackson State University United States of America (USA) was the resource person of the workshop.
Speaking on the occasion Prof Dr Nasim Ahmad described about the objectives of the workshop.
He said workshop is to provide intensive five days training in experimental designs, data collection and analysis methodologies, statistical software training, interpretation of results, manuscript development and grant writing. He also lauded the organizers of the workshop. During the workshop hand on training on statistical software SPSS, Minitab and SAS will also be conducted.
