Child labour; Pakistan’s major issue
In Pakistan children aged 5-14 years are above 40 million. During the last year, The Federal Bureau of Statistics released the results of its survey that, 3.8 million children age group of 5-14 years are working in Pakistan out of total 40 million children . The children are forced to work in bad working conditions where they can get different diseases or get really injured. They are paid about a handful of cents for their extreme struggle.
This is an alarming situation for our country. Poverty, lack of education, unemployment, larger households and uneven distribution of wealth and resources have contributed greatly to the increase in child labour.
Following are some suggestions to eradicate child labour from our country: awareness must be raised and the attention of parents ought to be diverted to the education of their children. Government should encourage sustainable jobs options for those who need to support their family. Assist domestic helpers in making their ends meet by offering clothes, food, and medicines. Primary education should be compulsory and free to all. Secondary education in its different forms, including technical and vocational secondary education, should be made generally available and accessible to all and it should be free. The development of a system of schools at all levels should be actively pursued. Child Labour Laws should be put into practice strictly. The orphans and other deserving children must be helped financially on a prolonged basis.
I would like to invite the attention of the authorities concerned towards child labour in Pakistan. It is equally frustrating that child labour, considered to be one of the core issues of Pakistan, is being neglected by the government. We should pay heed to this major issue otherwise, we will be deprived of educated and bright future .
