Convocation: ‘US, Pakistan should collaborate in education sector’
LAHORE: Governor Malik Rafiq Rajwana said on Thursday that there was a need to enhance cooperation between Pakistan and the United States for the promotion of quality education.
He was addressing the graduates of the 11th convocation of the University of Management and Technology (UMT) in Johar Town as its patron.
Federal Minister for Planning and National Reforms Ahsan Iqbal, former senate chairman Mian Muhammad Soomro, US Consul General in Lahore Zarchary Harkenrider and UMT Rector Dr Hassan Sohaib Murad were also present.
Rajwana said US support could strengthen the education sector.
“Initiatives in this regard by the United States Education Foundation and the USAID are welcome,” he said.
He said in a recent meeting between Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and US President Barrack Obama, it had been decided that collaboration in the education sector was essential.
The governor said the quality of education in the private sector was alarming.
“These universities should improve the education standards as early as possible,” he said.
He urged students to pursue higher education with the aim of playing their due role in the development of the country.
