CHAKWAL:
Religious scholars have urged seminary students to play their role in promoting harmony and countering rising intolerance and sectarian extremism in the country.

They, while addressing a series of training sessions on ‘How to Shun Sectarianism’, held at various religious madrassahs the other day, stressed the need for adopting a plural approach in the society.

The Shaoor Foundation for Education and Awareness (SFEA) conducted the sessions in religious schools in Chakwal, including Jamiaal Habib, Jamia Abu-Hanifa and Madrassah Anwarul Islam while leading religious scholars.

The first session was held at Madrassah Anwarul Islam. “We shall respect others’ beliefs and rather than using forceful tactics or maligning others, we should only try to attract others by our good deeds and positive behaviour,” said Allama Hafiz Zaheer, head of education at the madrassah.

A second was held at Jamia Al-Habib, which is headed Pakistan Milli Yakjehti Council Senior Vice President Maulana Abdul Raheem Naqshbandi.

The final session was held at Jamia Abu Hanifa, Milla Chowk, which was head by Maulana Mumtaz Siddiqui. “Pakistan is facing multiple challenges, but the most dangerous and lethal problem is mounting extremism and sectarian intolerance,” he said.

He said that promoting peace and harmony should become the priority of each and every institution. These sessions at different religious seminaries were part of Rabta Project being run by SFEA.
