DUHS ESTABLISHES FIRST DIME IN PAKISTAN
Tuesday, December 01, 2015 - Karachi—The medical education is the foundation of health professional education. Basic medical education with skills and professional development is the need of the hour. Keeping in view the necessity of medical education institute at a regional and international level, Dow University established this Institute for teaching, faculty development, scholarship, development and evaluation of educational programs through service provision, research and innovation for the entire nation.
Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS) Vice Chancellor Prof. Masood Hameed Khan expressed these views on the occasion of opening of first Dow institute of medical education (DIME) of the country at its Ojha Campus. The institution is established to restructure, organize and optimize the existing medical education programs being conducted regularly at Dow University. The Inaugural Ceremony of DIME and Workshop on ‘Advanced Teaching Skills’ was organised Monday at Ojha Campus. It was attended by the senior faculty members of the university and students.
Prof, Khan stressed that there should be a concept of building teachers skills because teachers are nation builders. Keeping in view the importance of teachers’ knowledge and skills development, he suggested introducing a concept of making teachers training program mandatory for each faculty member of Dow University.
Prof. Rana Qamar, Director of Quality Enhancement Cell congratulated Dow University for achieving another milestone.
She informed that since establishment, the University always tried to develop human resource development and therefore, introduced new innovations in every field.
Recently Dow University collaborates with DICE for innovation in healthcare whereas teacher training program is another step for enhancing the teacher’s skills.
Dr Syed Imran Mehmood, Director, DIME said that this Institute will provide a focus and structure to ensure the Medical and Allied health professionals produce well-rounded graduates equipped with the skills and knowledge to enable them to work within, to shape and to lead the 21st century healthcare systems.
The divisions of this Institute will contribute to the delivery of exciting and challenging courses at undergraduate, postgraduate and continuous professional development levels. DUHS Pro VC Prof. Muhammad Masroor also congratulated the entire team of Dow University for establishing DIME.
