Clinical Nutrition : NIU launches its first academic programme
LAHORE: Nur International University (NIU), chartered by the Higher Education Commission (HEC) and recognised by the Government of Punjab, launched its first academic programme at a ceremony held on Friday.
NIU is the latest endeavour of NUR Foundation Chairperson Shahima Rehman with a vision of providing high quality education.
According to the Fatima Memorial Service Deputy Directory Asma Rao, the first programme being introduced by NIU is BSc. Clinical Nutrition (Hons), part of the School of Life and Applied Sciences, which consists of basic knowledge on nutrition and includes additional courses.
She said that the first batch of students, expected to graduate in the year 2019, are invited to the orientation ceremony, which introduced them to the university, its vision and the expectations from the students by the institution.
She said the mission of NIU is to provide a holistic education experience that promotes multidisciplinary studies, incorporating values and ethics with best international practices, adding that the aim is to promote critical thinking among the students to equip them to understand and face the challenges of knowledge economy. “In a world where knowledge is the most valuable resource, a comprehensive and objective worldview is required to enable students to become leaders in the global village,” she added.
The ceremony began with a presentation on NIU by its Academic Coordinator Ehsan Gulsher and Nur Centre for Research and Policy Programme Director Dr Roomi Aziz followed by addresses from NIU Board of Governors Chairman Dr Zafar Iqbal Qureshi, Fatima Memorial Hospital (FMH) College of Medicine and Dentistry Principal Prof Jamshed Nasir and NIU Clinical Nutrition Head of Programme Shazia Zahra. The ceremony welcomed the first batch of students to NIU.
