National Education Policy: Experts call for uniform education system
ISLAMABAD: The government should realise modern-day changes in education, and that these should be reflected in the new education policy, making it knowledge-oriented and focused on modern training of teachers.
Education experts and the representatives of different organisations and civil society expressed these views while addressing the final discussion forum regarding the new National Education Policy (NEP) at a local hotel on Thursday.
After 12 successful consultation sessions across the country, the Idara-e-Taleem-o-Aagahi (ITA) team held its 13th overall session, the second in Islamabad.
In an engaging debate, the participants discussed important issues across all education sub-sectors in the country, and presented inputs and practical recommendations.
Some of the recommendations included the need for the policy to make early childhood education (ECE) enrolment compulsory along with primary enrolment, as well as inculcating hands-on learning methods. It must also be ensure that ECE students have access to relevant books and learning material.
Other recommendations included teacher recruitments across the education sector to be based on merit with no political interference.
