Knowledge shops being set up in Punjab University, UET and FAST
LAHORE, Pakistan: The Punjab government is setting up knowledge shops at the University of the Punjab, University of Engineering and Technology (UET) and FAST University.
Official sources told on Tuesday that first knowledge shop of such nature had already been set up in Sundar Industrial Estate Lahore at a cost of Rs 80 million funded by the Higher Education Commission in the first phase.
In the second phase more knowledge shops will be opened in universities of other districts.
Setting up of Knowledge Shops in various education institutions will help to equip students with new trends in technology and enable them to compete with marketing challenges.
Under the said project government will establish e-libraries in colleges and universities where students will get research journals, books and knowledge about new inventions in their respective fields under one roof.
They said, since the Punjab government was attaching high significance to education at grass roots level, it had undertook a number of projects to promote education at grass roots level in the province.
“We have to attain 100 percent literacy rate till 2020,” sources added.
They said, both private and public sector universities were playing a pivotal role in economic activism through the promotion of applied research in their respective institutions.
