Int’l scholars will deliver lecture on e-learning tomorrow at AIOU

ISLAMABAD: Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) will start a lecture series by the international professors on e-learning for academia and PhD scholars from tomorrow at its main campus.Speakers who will deliver lecture from abroad on skype include Prof Mark Adams, Prof Bettina Brockmann, Prof Bobbi Makani, Minna Holopainen from SJSU California, Dr Ishan Abeywardena from Sri Lanka Open University and Dr Rory McGreal from Athabasca University, Canada.

The series is part of university’s efforts for shifting traditional system to online or e-learning through a gradual process, said Allama Iqbal Open University Vice Chancellor Dr Shahid Siddiqui while speaking on the importance of e-learning and the university’s future plan on online Education. He said the AIOU, being the public sector institution wishes to push forward the government’s policy to promote online learning, particularly at higher education level.

The series is being arranged by the Faculty of Education. The department has scheduled the lecture series from October 5 to 9. The speakers from abroad will share their knowledge with the PhD students.

Earlier, Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) had started a dialogue series ‘Mulaqat’ with eminent personalities to share with them their experience and achievements for the benefit of students and the academicians.

It also aimed at promoting academic knowledge of the students about the people who achieved distinction in their respective fields. This is part of the AIOU’s consistent efforts to develop its main campus as a centre of literacy and cultural activities, the vice chancellor revealed.

Number of such activities was initiated during the last few months. These included skill-based lecture series, distinguished lecture series, book and author series, research colloquium, awareness and advocacy series and media dialogue, he added.The vice chancellor hoped that such events will be a source of inspiration for students and academicians in carrying out their educational pursuits as well as promoting research culture in the country.
