Private schools asked to seek approval for fee increase
KARACHI: Sindh Minister for Education, Nisar Ahmed Khuhro, has said that the private schools cannot enhance their fee from five to 10 percent without the approval from the Directorate of Private Schools.
Talking to media here on Friday, he said that those private schools that had issued challan for more than 10 percent of fee increase in August and September would be bound to adjust the same in the month of October. The Minister said that in the current month no private school would be allowed to issue challan of more than 10 percent fee increase. He announced the formation of a five-member monitoring committee to be headed by the Director General of the Private Schools. The committee, it was pointed out, would visit private schools from Monday to ensure that no such institution issues challan for more than 10 percent of fee without permission.
In case of any violation, the registration of the schools may be canceled. A complaints cell would also be established at the Directorate of Private Schools for receiving any complaints pertaining to the fee increase. No private school would be allowed to increase fee more than five percent without permission. The Minister said that a parliamentary committee is being formed to review the law pertaining to the registration. The recommendations of the committee would be placed before the Provincial Assembly for approval, he added.
