Islamabad - The Capital Administration and Development Division (CADD) has directed hospitals and educational institutes working under its control to get educational credentials of their employees verified.

In a letter to its subsidiary departments, the CADD has asked to get educational certificates (SSC, HSSC, MBBS, and postgraduate qualifications/degrees) verified from the concerned boards/universities immediately.
Thus, the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences, Polyclinic Hospital, National Institute of Rehabilitation Medicine (NIRM), and Federal Directorate of Education have further directed all medical specialists/ officers to furnish their degrees/certificates immediately for onward submission to the concerned board/university for verification.

Confirming the development, CADD Secretary Khalid Hanif said the verification process has been going on since the fake degree issue involving politicians emerged.
But some officials had complied with the orders while others did not take it seriously.
So a directive was issued afresh by the Prime Minister office recently to verify the academic credentials of all the government employees, he added.

The Higher Education Commission (HEC) was tasked by the Supreme Court and Election Commission of Pakistan in 2010 to get attested/verified degrees of parliamentarians.
It was reported in the media at that time that out of 13,490 candidates, there were about 57 fake degree holders who had contested 2008 elections for seats in the national and provincial assemblies.

It is important to note that recently cases have emerged in which employees in government schools and colleges and even in hospitals have been found appointed on forged documents.
In such a case, CADD and FIA have been investigating the academic credentials of Dr Fayyaz Ahmad Sheikh, the deputy executive director of Polyclinic Hospital, who has been accused of getting higher position on forged documents.
