‘Private schools won’t be allowed to increase fee by more than 10pc’

HYDERABAD: Senior Sindh Minister for Information, Education and Literacy Development Nisar Ahmed Khuhru made it clear that private educational institutions would not be allowed to set ‘their own rules’ and action will be taken if any organisation will cross ‘its limits’.

“Hike in school fee announced by the private educational institutions is unjustified and it would not be allowed,” said the minister while speaking to journalists here at the Hyderabad Press Club on Thursday.

He, however, said the provincial government was ready to address all genuine complaints of the owners of private education institutions.

“No school would be allowed to increase fee by more than 10 per cent annually,” said the minister, adding that few schools had increased the fee by up to 60 per cent.

“Now all schools have agreed not to increase fee by more than 10%.”

Khuhru went on to say that hike in school fee can be implemented from August every year.

The minister informed that he would also hold meetings with the owners of private educational institutions and the office bearers of private schools associations, where, he added, important decisions were expected.

About the ghost schools in Sindh, Khuhru said when the PPP government came into power, existence of over 5,000 ghost schools in the province was highly propagated. However, when the PPP reviewed

the numbers of schools it could only found 1,100 closed schools, he added.

The minister informed that the present government had appointed 16,000 junior and secondary school teachers through NTS while 8,000 more school teachers will be appointed soon–APP/Geo
