PUCIT principal claims 85 percent of graduates are employed
LAHORE: Punjab University College of Information Technology (PUCIT) Principal Dr Syed Mansoor Sarwar on Monday said that the PUCIT has been offering online admission applications to prospective candidates to make admission process more convenient, transparent and speedy. Dr Mansoor said that a recent survey of the PUCIT graduates from all degree programmes has revealed important information about the college graduates. Based on this survey, 85 percent of the graduates are employed in 394 companies including technology giants like Microsoft, Facebook, and IBM, seven percent run their own businesses including their own 46 technology companies, five percent currently pursuing higher education, three percent are unemployed - roughly half by choice.
Overall 33 percent pursued higher education while 22 percent are currently residing in foreign countries. According to last year’s survey, about 30 percent graduates are working in the IT workforce of Lahore. On average, starting salary of a fresh graduate is around Rs 35,000, which roughly increases 50 percent in first year of job and becomes almost double within two years, Dr Mansoor Sarwar added.
Talking to media representatives in his office at the PUCIT campus, Mansoor was of the view that anyone from anywhere can access the online application portal of the college, submit his or her credentials. Besides online application submission, for those who cannot apply online, the college provides a well-organised facility and staff guidance to apply online at the college premises. Speaking to a group of journalists at his office, Dr Mansoor Sarwar said that he is focusing on more admissions in MPhil and PhD, as over 900 candidates applied for Mphil and PhD in last year. “This (last year’s admission trend) was an achievement and we are happy that this process also continue during this year’s admission at higher education. We have good arrangements with three multi-national software houses in the market for paid internships.
