HEC chairman invited to int’l education conference
ISLAMABAD: The Cuban government has invited Higher Education Commission (HEC) Chairman Dr Mukhtar Ahmed to the 10th International Congress of Higher Education University to be held in February next year.
The theme of the conference is Innovative University for a Sustainable Human Development, said Jes£s Zen during his visit to Higher Education Commission Secretariat where he presented the invitation letter.
The conference would be attended by representatives of Latin American countries, where the HEC Chairman would share with the delegates, initiatives taken by
the HEC for the improvement of higher education in Pakistan.
Accepting the invitation, Dr Ahmed said that such a gathering would be fruitful for future collaborations in the field of higher education between Pakistan and Cuba.
He said a group of vice chancellors would also accompany him which would help develop cooperation and partnerships in their respective disciplines for both countries.
The chairman said that a ceremony to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the devastating earthquake of 2005 would be held on October 14, to honour those who lost their lives and the mark decade of Cuban support that followed in the shape of 1,000 scholarships in medical education.
Cuban rescue and medical teams arrived six days after the quake and made outstanding contributions in relief operation, he added.
He said Pakistan was offering 100 scholarships for Cuban students in the field of engineering soon and expressed the hope that they would have productive and fruitful educational experience in Pakistan.
He also shared the plans to set up a sports university in Pakistan while the Cuban ambassador offered cooperation for the initiative.
