AIOU to expand network in remote parts of country

ISLAMABAD: Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) will expand its educational facilities to remote and deprived areas of Balochistan, said Allama Iqbal Open University Vice Chancellor (VC) Dr Shahid Siddiqui.

During his meeting with the Balochistan Minister for Education Sardar Raza Muhammad Barrech on Saturday, he said that the porgramme aims at facilitating the people living in the far-flung parts of Balochistan in order to provide them equal access to quality education and to up bring them to the nation’s mainstream.

Dr Shahid said the university will strengthen the network of its regional campuses and centres throughout the province. “This is a part of Allama Iqbal Open University’s ongoing efforts for expanding its infrastructure network providing quality education at the nearest place of the students,” he maintained.

The vice chancellor informed the minister that the AIOU has adopted latest information technologies to reach its millions of students living in the country. The minister applauded the role of Allama Iqbal Open University in spreading education in the country, especially in Balochistan. He assured every possible cooperation of the provincial government with the university to achieve the goals of spreading education.

Earlier, Dr Shahid had a detailed meeting with the vice chancellors of the all four universities in Balochistan and exchanged possibilities and opportunities for disseminating basic and higher education in the province.

All the vice chancellors appreciated the efforts of Allama Iqbal Open University in eliminating the clouds of ignorance and spreading the light of knowledge and awareness in the province.

They extended their commitment to help and facilitate Allama Iqbal Open University in its activities regarding research and teaching in Balochistan. Dr Shahid expressed his gratitude to the vice chancellors for their commitment of cooperation and collaboration.

He also visited the open day activities of Allama Iqbal Open University held in a local college in Quetta.

Later on, he visited Quetta Central Jail along with other officials and had meeting with the Jails Assistant Inspector General (AIG) and other authorities.

Dr. Shahid informed the jail authorities that the AIOU has recently launched its free education programme for the prisoners to make them useful educated citizen of the country. The AIG admired the university initiative and promised his cooperation with the AIOU regarding this programme.

The vice chancellor also held meetings with the AIOU’s assistant regional directors of Zhob, Dera Murad Jamali, Gwadar, Qalat and Quetta regional director and discussed possibilities of expanding Allama Iqbal Open Univesity’s horizon to facilitate the students of Balochistan.

He assured that the AIOU will take every possible step to resolve the problems of the students of Balochistan.
