NAB nails six over Rs300m fraud

GUJRANWALA

The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) yesterday arrested six office bearers of a private housing society on charges of fraud of Rs300 million.
The raid was carried out on Friday, after an inquiry, found the accused guilty of the fraud.
According to the NAB, a citizen Rana Ghulam Mustafa filled an application with the bureau, alleging that the management of Canal City Housing Society (irrigation housing society) had been involved in fraud of millions of rupee. The accountability bureau initiated an investigation into the scam which established the misappropriation of millions of rupees. On Friday, an NAB team conducted a raid in Gujranwala and arrested six persons including Canal City Housing Society president Yaqoob Loana, General Secretary Mian Ghulam Ali, Finance Secretary Zaka Ullah Bhatti, Member Committee Tariq Ashraf and Assistant Registrar Cooperative Societies Fakharul Zaman. The bureau has started further investigation.
Punjab spending on education: MPA and Parliamentary Secretary for Education Madam Rofan Julius has said that the Punjab government is following a policy of giving all sort of support to private sector schools to achieve 100 percent literacy rate in the province.
She was addressing a ceremony organised by Gujranwala Chamber of Education Schools (GCES) here on Thursday.
The ceremony was also attended by GCES Chairman Ch Muhammad Jamil, President Uzman Rasheed, Muhammad Yasin Phularwan, Khawaja Suleman Asif, Ch Muhammad Akhtar and others.
Rofan Julius said that the Punjab government has allocated more fund for education than other provincial governments, saying the provision of quality education was the top priority of the government.
She appreciated the efforts of Gujranwala Chamber of Education and said that she would pay her role to resolve the commercialisation issue of private school buildings.
Chairman Chaudhry Muhammad Jamil, President Uzman Rasheed, General Secretary Nadeem Anwar also addressed the ceremony.
They highlighted the problems being faced by private schools and expressed gratitude the chief guest for offering help in this regard.
