Five-day citizenship education begins at UoG

GUJRAT
A five-day workshop on “Citizenship Education in Pakistan” started here at Hafiz Hayat of the Campus of University of Gujrat (UoG).
It is being organised by ORIC and the UOG in collaboration with British Council, Pakistan. About 35 faculty members of different departments of UoG are participating in the training workshop. The main objective of the training is to provide the faculty with basic ideas of learning and education of young citizens. ORIC Director Dr Mudasser Iqbal was the chief speaker of the inaugural session of the workshop. Among the focal persons are Saboohi Ali, British Council Consultant for capacity building; lead facilitators Alina Rana, Salar Talha Azhar and Uzair Ahsan.
Dr Iqbal said that Pakistan has active youth, and added that no nation could achieve the goals of development without involvement of its youth in different projects of social and economic progress. He said that UoG was performing an active role in community development through different projects.
He said that Active Citizen Programme was an effort to develop the society on modern lines. He added that faculty could play as a role model for the students. He said that UoG was going to establish a business incubation centre for the development of social entrepreneurship among the students.
He said that the training programme would help the faculty become true mentor sof the students. He also said that UoG was offering Social Action Programme courses in each department of the varsity to achieve the target of social development.
Saboohi Ali said that training was a process of mutual learning. She added that Active Citizens programme linked civil society, community leaders and the networks of young people and organisations in Pakistan, the UK and other countries. She said that the primary aim was to deepen trust and understanding within and between communities.
Uzair Ahsan said that there was lack of citizenship and civic sense in the country while the programme would help achieve the targets of social development.
