President seeks public support to fight corruption
Islamabad - President Mamnoon Hussain has said that Pakistan is a great country but corruption has damaged it a lot.
The President appealed to the public to join him in the fight against corruption.
The President said this while addressing the 6th convocation of Virtual University here at Pak-China Friendship Centre on Wednesday.
Minister of State for Information Technology Anusha Rehman was also present on the occasion.
The President stated that the culture of not paying the taxes has impacted adversely on national economy and urged upon all segments of society to make concerted efforts to shun this negative tendency.
The President said that there is a need to launch a movement to restore moral values for resolution of Pakistan’s political and economic problems and expressed desire that youth should become front runners of this movement.
The President noted that due to corruption and years of economic stagnation, national economy has suffered and the country has not optimally utilised its resources.
He stated that work on China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) has begun, adding that its completion would propel economic activities and create immense employment opportunities which would stabilise the country’s economy.
Therefore, it is imperative that the nation removes all hurdles in the way of timely completion of these projects.
The President emphasised that there is need to improve the quality of education in government educational institutions so that the less privileged are able to acquire higher education easily.
He observed that the performance of government educational institutes in the past was better in comparison to expensive private educational institutions.
There is a need to improve the standards of government educational institutions and in this regard Virtual University has performed well which deserve appreciation, said the President.
The President stated that the adverse law and order situation in the country has also contributed to economic instability adding that the armed forces of Pakistan on the direction of the government are working diligently to establish rule of law.
He appealed to the public to whole-heartedly support the government and the army in their efforts to eliminate the elements spreading lawlessness which deserve no leniency.
The President advised the youth to respect their parents, teachers and elders and adopt national cultural values by safeguarding themselves from the negative influence of Western civilisation.
