AIOU holds conference on improving distance learning system
ISLAMABAD: To provide better educational facilities particularly in far-flung and less-developed regions, Allama Iqbal Open University on Saturday held a day-long regional directors’ conference in which it was decided to bring about structural changes in their overall administrative network at countrywide level.
While enhancing students’ enrollment, focus will also be laid on quality education. It will be ensured that during the new admissions (autumn-2015) started from August 1, fresh and continuing students are well facilitated in their educational pursuits.
Providing them all necessary facilities will strengthen AIOU’s 44 regional centres at various parts of the country, said AIOU Vice Chancellor Dr Shahid Siddiqui while addressing the conference, held through video link.
An action plan will be prepared soon on the basis of suggestions, put forth by the directors during the day-long extensive deliberations. Regional directors thanked the VC for appointment regular staff on important managerial positions, hoping that this will help to meet desired results. It was decided that a proactive policy will be followed to provide best possible services to the students in term of admissions, exams, issuance of certificates and degrees and timely mailing of books and allied material.
Dr Sididqui emphasised that the officers and staff should work with an innovative and proactive approach to maintain the university’s leading position in the distance learning system.
He briefed conference about his priority areas that includes promotion of research culture, professional development, revision of textbooks and strengthening students’ support system. Professional development will also be given priority for the capacity building of the employees, enabling them to deliver the best.
He appreciated the regional directors for their dedicated efforts providing affordable quality education to around 1.3 million students.
He hoped that they would launch motivation campaign at the regional level to bring maximum number of people in the educational net.
