Govt to set up university, sub-campus in every district
ISLAMABAD – Federal Minister for Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal on Thursday informed the National Assembly that the government was planning to establish one university or its sub-campus in every district within next three years to promote higher education.
During question hour in the Lower House, the minister said that the government was taking numerous steps to promote higher education. He said the government had granted permission to establish General University in Swat subject to the availability of funds.
The minister said the government had allocated huge amount of Rs 20 billion in the previous financial year for the Higher Education Commission (HEC) and spent Rs 28 billion to facilitate maximum number of youth. Ashan Iqbal said that in fiscal year 2015-16, Rs 21 billion had been allocated for HEC to complete ongoing projects well in time.
- Industriral Units for Privatisation -
Parliamentary Secretary for Finance Rana Muhammad Afzal Khan said a list of 129 industrial units had been prepared for privatisation and the government was restructuring different units for this purpose. He said a comprehensive law titled "The Corporate Rehabilitation Bill" had been drafted by the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan and was in the process of enactment.
Afzal Khan said the law will encompass all aspects and would address the issues of rehabilitation of closed, sick industrial and small and medium enterprise (SMEs) units in a much better and effective manner than the previously notified rules. “Efforts are underway to get all the legal formalities completed to get the law passed by the parliament as early as possible,”
