Sindh Education Deptt begins review of NEP 2009
KARACHI: The Curriculum wing of the Sindh Education & Literacy Department on Thursday initiated the review of National Education Policy 2009 in line with decisions taken at the 2nd IPEMC held last year in Islamabad.
According to an official press release, attendees at the event included key stakeholders from the Department of Education and Literacy, various NGOs working in the educational sector, private sector and media.
The key objective of the session was to present additional policy recommendations and changes using the National Education Policy 2009 as the basic framework.
Participants debated and discussed various facets of the education policy which included governance and policy framework, social cohesion, financing, public-private partnerships, donor coordination, alternate learning pathways, teacher education and quality education (curriculum and assessment).
As an action point, recommendations were shared for each focus area in the presentation session presided over by the Secretary Education, Dr. Fazlullah Pechuho.
Recommendations mainly revolved around introducing policy reforms for better governance and accountability, more responsive and updated curricula, improved teacher training and certification, setting basic standards across provinces, better partnerships with the private sector and efficient resource allocation/utilization.
Mr. Pehcuho concluded the session with remarks on each set of recommendations and lauded the occasion as a historic landmark in Sindh’s pursuit of its independent education policy. He stressed on keeping the education sector’s core beneficiaries i.e. students, as the source of all reforms introduced in the policy.
