Buner’s Asif Ali youngest tehsil councillor
PESHAWAR - Asif Ali, a young boy from a remote and backward village of Buner district, has emerged as the youngest councillor in the local government elections held on May 30, 2015.
Born on January 19, 1992, Asif Ali, after completing his secondary school certificate examination, got engaged in his farming and family business. The elders of his village, especially those associated with Awami National Party, decided to field him as a candidate for the slot of tehsil councillor. People from all over the area, on account of his family’s popularity and credibility, welcomed his candidature.
Asif said, “I was surprised when I was informed of my candidature in the local government elections.”
He said, "Though I was the least interested in the elections, I was unable to disobey my elders, so I filed nomination papers for tehsil council’ Office on the ticket of Awami National Party and won. ANP candidates, defeating rivals from Pakistan Muslim League-N with a large margin, won both the district and tehsil councillors’ slots. Shah Muhammad was elected as district councillor from Union Council Kangalai.
Asif Ali looked very happy with his victory and said, “My first focus will on education because literacy rate in Buner is comparatively low.” He recalled that former education minister and ANP leader Sardar Babak did a lot for the promotion of education, but more schools and more teachers were needed. In the light of his family’s political association with ANP, Asif said, “I will try my best for a peaceful atmosphere in the area.”
