Unemployment biggest issue of S Punjab: Governor

Admitting that unemployment is the biggest issue of South Punjab region, the Punjab governor said that a proposal to set up a sub civil secretariat for South Punjab in Lahore is under consideration while education department’s directorate will soon be established in Multan.
Talking to journalists here after visiting Ameerabad Park on Wednesday, Malik Rafiq Rajwana said that the proposed secretariat would soon be shifted to Multan. He said that unemployment was the biggest issue of South Punjab region but the people submitting applications were being adjusted somewhere keeping in view the merit.
He admitted that the situation in the province was not ideal, saying an all-out effort was being made to put the province on path of progress and prosperity. He said that everyone knew what the chief ministers of Sindh and KPK were doing while on the other hand Punjab CM Shahbaz Sharif monitored flood situation from London. He assured the journalists that the government would overcome all problems as practical steps were being taken for the purpose.
Referring to Multan Metro Bus Project, the governor said that work on the project was underway at full pace and the affectees were being paid compensation at higher rate than Lahore and Rawalpindi. He claimed that the metro would prove to be the best project of South Punjab. He added that the people would soon notice a visible change as government put special emphasis on health and education projects. He directed the concerned authorities to take benefit of experiences earned from Lahore and Rawalpindi projects and avoid all mistakes in Multan. He said that Multan was a big city and it deserved this project, adding that this project would eliminate sense of deprivation from this region. He hoped that the project would also boost business besides creating multiple employment opportunities.
Earlier, he directed the district administration to complete work on Ameerabad park as soon as possible and open Anti Corruption office road to the public. He declared that a girls’ college, a hospital and other welfare departments would be established on state land in the Ameerabad area. He disclosed that funds worth over Rs24 million were being spent on the park project. He directed the PHA authorities to get constructed a drainage along the park to prevent water from accumulating on the road. He warned that no compromise would be made on quality of work.
Visiting SOS Children Village, the governor declared that the orphans living in the SOS village were not helpless as the government would fully patronise them and they would be given all-out support for their education.
Addressing the children after distributing Eidi to them, he said that the kids living in the SOS village not be called orphans or helpless as they were important part of the society.
He stressed upon the children to work hard and show more distinction in their studies. He said that the SOS Children village was a blessing for the homeless children as majority of parents could not even give a home like SOS village to their children.
