GSTA demands probe into corruption allegations against teachers
The Government Secondary Teachers Association Sindh (GSTA) on Tuesday demanded probe into corruption allegations leveled by Secretary Education Fazalullah Pechuho on teachers and other officers through media.
GSTA’s President Haji Mohammad Ashraf Khaskheli and General Secretary Iqbal Panhwar said the corruption allegations were baseless and concocted, as the secretary himself was involved in massive corruption scam of Rs 13 billion through its subsidiary reform support unit (RSU).
Talking to PPI, GSTA’s Secretary General Iqbal Panhwar said the Auditor General Pakistan had also questioned the RSU’s expenditures. He said former RSU chief Sabah Mehmood was fired by the education department apparently on Supreme Court’s order, while the reality was contrary to it. Furthermore, the RSU’s ex-chief had appointed about 170 persons illegally on high level jobs.
He said the Sindh government had regularised 7,906 candidates who passed University of Sindh’s test, but due the negligence by RSU, they could not even get regularisation certificate. The 19,000 NTS test-passing candidates’ salary issue could also not be resolved yet.
He said more than 600 posts of head masters were vacant all over Sindh, while the secretary education had suspended more than 4,000 teachers under the false charges within the period of over two years. He demanded that all suspended teachers’ enquiry should be conducted and the issue should be resolved immediately.
He said Pechuho was involved in massive corruption, so a major inquiry must also be conducted against him.
