TIEL launched for promoting education in Christian youth
Interfaith League Against Poverty (I-LAP) on Saturday inaugurated Institute of Emerging Leaders (TIEL) at Bahar Colony, Kot Lakhpat.
The inaugural plaque was unveiled by Bishop Ishaq Mazhar, Chairman National Baptist Church of Pakistan and Mrs. Venus Mazhar, an educationist.
The guest speakers included former MNA Dr Nelson Azeem and Professor Christy Munir, former vice principal Forman Christian College University.
Addressing on the occasion, Sajid Ishaq, chairman Interfaith League Against Poverty (I-LAP), said that it was unfortunate that as the years have progressed since the inception of Pakistan, there has been a clear divide between people who can enjoy the privilege of being educated in good institutions and those who dare not even dream about it.
“Today, when we stand at a distance and observe, we find that there is an embarrassing imbalance of the scale in Pakistan especially where education is concerned. Quality education is within the reach of only one segment of the society while the other segment is completely deprived,” he said, while lamenting the role of the government in this regard.
He said that the establishment of TIEL will provide the much needed educational support to the deprived segment of the society especially the Christian youth. “At TiEL They will be given the essential guidance that is urgently required to enable them to compete on merit for admissions into professional colleges and universities,” he concluded.
