‘Parho Punjab, Barho Punjab’ : PEF boon to needy children: Aneela

Foundation is going to enrol 2.8 million out of school/dropout children by 2018

LAHORE: The public-private partnership based free schooling programs of Punjab Education Foundation (PEF) have helped in reaching out to needy children and helping them to make it to schools for their studies free of cost.
Managing Director PEF Dr. Aneela Salman said this while presiding over coordination meeting at her office today. PEF Deputy MD (F) Salman Anwar Malik and program directors attended the meeting. Progress on different educational programmes was discussed in detail.
Addressing the meeting, she said that PEF is working hard to achieve the targets of ‘Parho Punjab, Barho Punjab’ by regularly extending its programs so that more and more needy children could benefit from these programs.
PEF is targeted to enrol 2.8 million out of school/dropout children by the year 2018, while current enrolment has reached to more than 1.7 million in 36 districts in Punjab. While discussing the importance of skills development programme, she said that there is a need to empower students through useful market-oriented skills so that they could earn an honourable living and may not end up as an educated youth. For this purpose, PEF secondary school students should be given an opportunity to learn useful skills in their summer vacations.
The meeting, while commending the role of school partners in promoting education at the grassroots, observed that high-performing partners may be facilitated so as to encourage their hard work in the field of school education. While discussing the pilot project of vouchers-based evening schooling for mostly child-labourers and maids, the MD said that this is helping such children to continue their education in the evening.
She hoped that training of school partners about monthly electronic attendance system would help them to efficiently use this IT based system, which is designed to ensure transparency. The hands-on training of education voucher scheme partnered schools has been initiated in Lahore, Multan and Rawalpindi consecutively.
