NEF devises strategy to promote technical education
ISLAMABAD: The National Education Foundation (NEF) Board of Governors (BOGs) on Thursday has devised a comprehensive strategy to award special incentives to the NEF‘s teachers and promotion of technical education.
Federal Education and Professional Training Minister of State Engineer Muhammad Balighur Rehman chaired the meeting of BOGs.
In the meeting, the honorarium for teachers of 42 schools of NEF has been raised to Rs 5,000, while reinvestment of the National Education Fund would be done in Islamic banking this year.
According to the details, honorarium, travel and dining allowance (TADA) for the board of governors to attend the meeting has also been approved in the meeting; the local members would be given Rs 5, 000 per meeting and those who come from other stations would be given special allowances.
It was said in the meeting that financial committee of the ministry would prepare the budget of 2015-16 to get it approved by the board of governors.
To appreciation of the teachers, it was also decided that seven out of 12 teachers of Al-Firdaus School in Bara Kahu would be given honorarium of Rs 5000.
Moreover Rs 1,000 per month for utilities and some additional amount for books would be provided to the school as it has been doing a wonderful job to spread quality education, the meeting elaborated.
On the occasion the working of vocational and technical schools came under discussion. It was said one or two vocational schools would be started as a pilot project this year with the capacity of up to 150 students.
However, dropouts underprivileged and those who want to learn the technical skills would be the main target of these schools. The National Education Fund and the Federal Education Ministry would do funding and monitoring of the project.
About the structure of the committees, it was declared that and executive committee will comprise of National Education Fund Managing Director (MD) Capt Muhammad Aftab as a Chairman, Joint Education Advisor Rafiq Tahir as member, Financial Adviser Arshad Ahmad, two members from civil society and non-government organisation Zahra Wadood Fatimi member National Assembly and United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) retired member Arshad Saeed.
While the financial committee would comprise of six members, Shiza Khan as Chairperson, Mosharraf Zaidi, Dr Farid Khan, Rafiq Tahir, Capt Muhammad Aftab and Arshad Ahmad.
Meeting was attended by Ministry Secretary Imtiaz Tajwar, Additional Secretary Dr Allah Bakhsh, Rafiq Tahir, Shiza Khan (member), Zahra Fatimi (member), Musharraf Zaidi (member) and other board members including officials of the Ministry.
