LHC in action over govt harassment against teachers

LAHORE - The Lahore High Court Wednesday suspended orders of various district coordination officers for stopping teachers from performing their duties at schools and asking them to report to the Punjab Schools Secretary for further orders.
The LHC has also sought reply from the secretary schools. A number of teachers have filed petitions in the Lahore High Court stating that the Punjab government is harassing them by different ways and has started inquiries against them.
The teachers are holding protests in Lahore and other cities of Punjab against the Schools Education authorities for forcing them on ‘writing fake reports about schools and duties at schools’ and for not regularising 53,000 educators inducted last year.
The protests have angered the government’s officials who have initiated inquiries against the teachers and DCOs in various districts of the Punjab were placing the services of teachers, especially of headmasters and principals at the disposal of Punjab Schools Secretary Education.
Tariq Mahmood, Zarar Ahmad, Muhammad Akram Sajid, Mushtaq Ahmad Haqqni, Tanvir Ahmad Kamalvi, Tauqir Ahmad Butt, Hafiz Abdun Nasir, Azeer Ahmad Gujjar, Tanvir Ahmad, Sifatullah Tahir, Muhammad Karam Khan, Sagheer Ahmad, Asif Saeed, Muhammad Iqbal Awan and other teachers have challenged the orders of the DCOs in the Lahore High Court individually.
The petitioner-teachers say DCOs in different districts have stopped them from teaching at schools and had asked them to surrender their services before the secretary schools. They say the secretary schools and DCOs have not such powers to order the teachers to surrender themselves before the Secretary.
The government, could not supply books for the students so far and the officials are demanding them to write ‘good reports’ rather than addressing the genuine problems at schools, so that the performance of schools could have been better, the petitioner submit.
They say they are being harassed and tortured only due to holding protests, which is their legal right, after the school time. The headmasters and principals of schools are the main targets of higher officials.
The government rather than hearing their demands and fulfilling them, is putting pressure on teachers and resultantly, the education is being affected.
The petitioners say the officials are humiliating teachers just for holding protest against ‘fake reports and writing lies’. They have prayed the LHC to suspend orders of various DCOs and order the officials not to harass them by various ways.
The cases have been fixed before different single benches of the LHC and judges, in all cases, have suspended orders of the DCOs with directions to submit replies on the next dates.
