47-year-old tribesman passionate for education
KHYBER AGENCY - The saying ‘getting knowledge has no age restriction’ is applied truly on 47-year-old tribesman of Landi Kotal who is attempting his third year exams along with with his 19-year-old son here at Degree College for Boys Landi Kotal exam hall.
With long thick beard, wearing Chitrali cap, 47-year-old Banaris Shinwari resident of Ash Khel Landikotal sitting in the middle of young candidates along with his elder son took his third year exam as private candidate in humanity group.
Narrating his tale Banaris Shinwari said in 1988 he cleared his Matric exam and after his father’s death, all responsibility of looking after his family came on his shoulder and therefore beside his keen interest he could not continue his education. He has no permanent job although he supports his nine children including five daughters and four sons to get high education.
In 2013 he resumed his education and in 2013-14 he cleared his intermediate and after getting bachelor’s degree, the Shinwari is determined enough to get his master’s degree now.
On a query he said, he was delighted to prepare for exams in one room with his children. When Ziauddin, the elder son of Haji Banaris Shinwari and also third year student of the college, was asked about his father’s passion to get education he said, “We are proud of our father who not only strived hard to gain knowledge but also running a movement to spread education in the area.”
