“School curriculuma should be developed according to the needs of modern times,” Dr Thomas L Rost of the University of California, USA, said on Saturday.
He was addressing a seminar titled Curriculum Development held at the University of Agriculture, Faisalabad, (UAF) on Saturday.
He said education plans should keep in mind prevalent issues in the society.
“Addressing poverty, unemployment and healthcare should be the primary focus of curriculums,”
He said a curricula should be planned for long-term and medium-term goals.
He said information technology had changed the face of education. He said IT could be used to enhance teaching environments and making learning interactive.
Vice Chancellor Iqrar Ahmad Khan said teachers should play an active role in developing curricula.
He said the UAF faculty in collaboration with University of California Davis was revising all its courses.
He said initially, veterinary science courses would be revised. These would be followed by the food and engineering faculties. He said some 100 elective courses would be introduced in various disciplines at the varsity.
UAF former vice chancellor Bashir Ahmad said quality research and strong academia-industry linkages were imperatives for better education. He said scientists should come with out-of-the-box solutions for farmers to tackle food insecurity.
