Belarus minister of education meets HEC chairman
ISLAMABAD: The Higher Education Commission (HEC) is making a concerted effort to enhance quality of higher education in the country.
This was stated by HEC Chairman Prof Dr Mukhtar Ahmed during a visit by Republic of Belarus Minister of Education Dr Michael A Zhuravkov on Tuesday.
The visiting dignitary from Belarus showed keen interest in setting up an Education Commission on the model of HEC in his own country.
He said that Belarus has a strong base in medical, agro farming industry, physics, astronomy, space sciences and robotics and was ready to extend cooperation to Pakistani scientists.
Dr Michael further said that Belarus has 45 state and nine private higher education institutions, where over 40 percent of the faculty possesses a doctoral degree. He said that in the index of level of education Belarus stands 50th among 187 countries. He extended an offer to begin summer student exchange programmes.
Earlier Prof Dr Mukhtar shared with the visitor steps taken by Pakistan in developing institutional facilities, introducing new disciplines in market based technologies, developing human resource including faculty, improving research facilities, creating linkages with local and foreign universities and promoting university-industry interaction, amongst other projects.
HEC has been spearheading research in universities which has led to creation and growth of indigenous knowledge in all academic fields, the chairman added. He also offered faculty exchange programme, exchange of researchers and research collaborations amongst the two countries in the industrial fields of mutual interest as well in agriculture.
