WB TEAM PONDERS OVER FUTURE COLLABORATION IN EDUCATION
Thursday, May 21, 2015 - Lahore—A four-member implementation support mission of the World Bank (WB), headed by senior education specialist Ms. Scherezad Latif, today, visited the head office of the Punjab Education Foundation and held detailed meetings with chairman Engineer Qamar ul Islam Raja and managing director Dr. Aneela Salman about potential sub-reforms areas of third phase of Punjab Education Sector Program. On the occasion, different prospects of education-promotion in the impecunious strata, in partnership with the private sector, were discussed in detail. The meeting expressed the satisfaction that PEF is doing a wonderful job in the education sector in Punjab.
While briefing the delegation, Qamar ul Islam said that achieving the goal of hundred percent enrolments by 2018 is the priority agenda of the Punjab government. Education sector would be given due importance and ample funds would be provided in the next budget. He expressed the satisfaction that due to the good work of the Punjab Government in the field of education, other federating units have also started giving attention to it, which is a good sign.
He said that PEF has reduced the distance of schools from students’ house; now the students, especially the girls, are saved from the hassle of public transport. In order to efficiently serve the school partners, PEF has introduced different reforms including putting schools on GIS mapping and advanced online payment system for the partners. He maintained that PEF is the best economic model with Rs. 511/- per student monthly cost, which includes fee and textbooks. Similarly, collaboration with the PEF has also strengthened the private schools in a number of ways.
MD PEF Dr. Aneela Salman told that improving quality of education is especially taken care of so that the students could get best education in most conducive atmosphere.
