TECHNICAL EDUCATION IN PAKISTAN
Thursday, May 21, 2015 - There are many lacunae and shortcomings in our education system of Pakistan. There is excessive emphasis on bookish learning. Cramming is encouraged. But the most serious defect is that the facilities for technical education are still very limited. Technical education is the need of the hour. We live in the cyber age. It is an age of large-scale production and it cannot be achieved without technological knowledge and IT awareness. We should encourage technical education if we want to keep pace with the advanced countries of the west.
It is, therefore, necessary that there should be a shift of emphasis in our education. More and more people should get technical and IT education. The scope for employment is unlimited in technical fields. We need as many engineers as we can get. Any number of mechanics and IT experts can be employed immediately. The time has come when we have to put discoveries of science into practical shape. Students should be taught to put into practice their theoretical knowledge. This can only be done with the help of technical knowledge. I would request the concerned education authorities to look into this matter and take appropriate measures immediately for the sake of development and economic growth of our country.
