Bol owner in limelight, this time for ‘selling’ education
LAHORE: The owner of the self-claimed ‘biggest media network’ of the country, ‘Bol’ Axact is once again the talk of the town because of an article published in The New York Times.
This time it is not for its big salary packages and perks for the employees to be hired for its media group but rather its business of ‘selling educational certificates’, all fake as the report claims.
The New York Times has published a lengthy article detailing the modus operendi of the business of selling education, its affiliate universities, colleges, schools and professional institutions and also verification of those certificates, diplomas and degrees by the ‘Secretary of State’ John Kerry.
When the Daily Times investigated the working of Axact, some former employees said on the condition of anonymity that the company had several shady businesses. Some allege that one of its functions was “preparing and operating indecent websites”. A former employee confided to the Daily Times that some of his colleagues refused to work on those sites and chose to quit the company but the management asserted pressure and forced them to work. They promote family interaction and in this way get familiar with the family members. The management of the company also pressurized the family members of those employees who refused to work for them. An interesting fact is that the company claims to be launching the biggest media group in the country under the banner of “BOL” that so far exists on websites only.
The company in response to the story said, “Axact condemns this story as baseless, substandard, maligning, defamatory, and based on false accusations and merely a figment of imagination published without taking the company’s point of view. Axact will be pursuing strict legal action against the publication and those involved.”
The interesting fact is that the company has spent all its energy in proving that a media group is against the group and they are already in litigation with it but did not give an answer to the allegations whether they have sold fake degrees or not.
