DISCRIMINATION WITH EVENINGERS...

A prestigious and well-established educational and research institution imparting quality education at higher and other levels; well, none other than the pride of the University of Karachi, established in 1950. It is among one of the largest universities in Asia. University has emerged as a dynamic academic institution and has a potential and will to keep pace with the fast moving world, in the fields of humanities, arts, sciences and latest trends in higher education. It has a great attraction for education seekers who want to get themselves enrolled in the KU’s academic programmes Therefore, today, the University is looking after the academic needs of about 25000 students. In view of the increasing number of aspirants every year, there is a genuine requirement of evening shift, to supplement and share the load of the morning shift providing opportunity to every admission seeker. In 1995, an evening shift was introduced in the University and was very successful, but it has some inherent issues.

If we draw a line between both the programmes (i.e evening and morning), an excessive difference exists. The dawn shift students have a lot of facilities and comforts as compared to the dusk shift students. Morning students have fruit of Scholarships, fee waivers, nominal fee structure, subsidized transport fare, internal shuttle service, arrangements of seminars, emergency first aid medication dispensary, indoor / outdoor sports, competitive contests, study tours and many more. Moreover, the dawners have too much options in selecting their subsidiaries but destitute naive duskers have option of only few. Be it known that we have not any rivalries or jealousies with morning mates. It is just to remind the University administration has always been complaining of paucity of funds consecutively since the commencement of evening shift rather than seriously solving the issue.

Eveningers have demonstrated severally for all these basic rights but University authorities pay a deaf ear and so have not shown any benignity to them. I feel that there should be and must be equality between both the shifts because both are KU-RIANS and the eveningers should have and must have facilities and benefits like morningers.
