You may buy education but not literacy
Children who start reading at early age, prescholar to read, enter school with the vocabulary of 12,000 words, whereas those who are not read to at early age enter preschool with 3000 words only. It is very sad and ironic to know that in our society, the age of cognitive developments of the child’s personality and brain is fully ignored. These days, majority of parents handover their childrens to the Technology. A todler operating cell phone, playing games on I-Pads, using laptoops is the true depiction of mundane of parants towards the mental growth of their little ones. Now a days, it is in trend to handover a screen to your todler so they can boost-up their learning process. They are not giving head to this reality that, becoming handy with the gadget is in reality going to ruin you child.
The question is, can audio-videos can replace books? The another sdening part is that parents have already given up on their responsibility by paying fees for schools and Tution Mafias. First it has killed the meaning of education and latter it has totally malignant the concept of schooling.
Our children enter school with the brain nurtured by incidental learning and vacablory of almost 3000 words and are given uncomprehended knowledge to memorize at home for getting a promotion to the next grade. Parents further handover them to the tutors for fulfilling the requirements of “Homework”. Being unaware of what they both are turning their kids into. Parents have made their children a pawn in their lives. Pawns? You must be thinking how? Well parents here in Pakistan are not paying for the education and personal nourishment of their children.Instead, they are paying money to make sure their children get high marks, be the topper in the class strength of one may be. So they can either inflate their magnificent child grooming or snub down someone else.
Recently the result of Secondary School Certificate of multiple boards is out. I have not gotten a chance to come across a single parents with their child scoring less than 90 per cent. The most interesting part is parents were saying that their child is very upset for not scoring more than this percent.
When you come across the same talent in person and ask about their hobbies, they like eating, watching movies and only do “study for exams”. Their tuitiona acedmys starts 5 am in the morning, from there they directly move to schools which starts at 8 am and then at 3pm they take home tuition at 4pm. What theyare studying in all this time is simple! They rote the books of syllabus and solve the question of past paperes. And they appear in exam with machines who can produce the photocopies of what they have fed with, more than 12 hours a day.
The real game starts, when you throw a twisted question to them, they are blank. After getting an education in English medium for 10 years, they even cannot talk and write in extemporeneous manner. This is the reason that the large number of toppers fail in professional institutes entry exam and apptitude tests.
Our society instead of considering their faults come out on roads to demand the dismissal of such exams which toppers of boards at times can’t pass. Why does parents and teachers don’t face the reality that marks of toppers are actually an inflation not the actual scale of his or her intellect. It's high time that concept of tuition accedmeys killed the concept of schools where they must learn the actual role of education with the art of Rhetoric and Brainstroming. So there is dier need to revolutionize our educational system, not just in institutes but also by our parents.
